Two Months

I had my two month check up. The doctor gave me the all clear, says I am healed up good enough to resume normal activity. My first order of business was a long wrestling match with my brother…NO CHASING though…my mom says not yet…it sure felt good to wrestle. My mom thinks that playing and resuming normal activity will help me build up my strength. She says that the doctor did his job, the physical therapists have been helping me, but i am still not walking upright, I am using my leg exactly the same way I was before my surgery to repair my only existing rear leg, she has nicknamed me scooty, because I scoot myself around. My mom says that the doctor said I am safe to use the leg in any way I choose, so she tells me that she will love me even if I don’t walk the way we all thought I would after this surgery. But she says that I am standing strong and tall and that is something I have never done before. She believes that the walking part of it will come in time. She says I am like a baby who crawls first, until they are strong enough to stand and then they are strong enough to take that first step, all in good time, as long as I am safe that is all she cares about…So now we start the process of acclimating me back into life with my fellow pack members, small baby steps here also. Here I am with my grumpy brother.

Hannah is a 7 mos old purebred Plush Coated German Shepherd Dog. Hannah was turned over to Coastal when she was a 4 mos old puppy. She was born with a defective left rear leg, it was straight, but it was straight underneath her so she couldn't use it, it just interfered with her ability to get around, due to the fact that she was hindered in her ability to get around whoever had her before Coastal did not feed her properly so her bones didn't develop properly and her right leg has some orthopedic issues, but Coastal works with the best vets around and Hannah's orthopedic doctor has NO doubt at all that once she has her surgery(ies) she will live a long and happy life! Hannah has lived in a foster home since Coastal took her under their wing and has thrived. In February she had the left rear leg amputated and is healing up beautifully and making up for lost time, full of puppy life and vigor. She is now getting the proper nutrition that every puppy deserves.

  1. Oh, your bro does look a little grumpy. Brothers can be that way sometimes.

Sounds like you are doing well. Your Mom is right – baby steps. You’ll get there!

  2. Oh boy. He does look grumpy. Jealousy will do that! You need to feel sorry for him. He is feeling less special because he has got 4 legs. How common is that? Be gentle with him.

    1. My mom tells me he has always been grumpy, that is what she loved about him! a dog that no one else wanted, not to mention he is old now and he doesn’t get around too well either and of course he is jealous because I am so beautiful! =)

  3. Hannah is Good to Go (resume normal activity)! That’s great news!! Sounds like a great check up. Tell grumpy to get used to it….cuz it’s wrestle time with Hannah! Keep taking those baby steps and soon they will be strides!!

  4. So glad to here Hannah got the “all clear”! That’s a big step in being a happy and strong tripawd. Many more wonderful days, and happy surprises, to come. Our dog surprised us by still being able to outswim his “sister” (a monkeybutt)!
