Five Months

So it has been awhile since my mom has updated my progress. She said things were moving along at a snails pace anyway, up until about a month ago, then I really started to get up and use my repaired rear leg and every since then I use it more every day. She says there is hope for me to hop along like a real tripawd! She said the surgeon told her complete healing can take about 6 to 8 mos, especially since there was cutting and stretching of muscle and he wasn’t joking my mom says the rate that I am going I will be walking upright for the rest of my life really soon! =) Here are a couple recent videos of me using my leg! I hope everyone else out there is hopping right along!

Hannah is a 7 mos old purebred Plush Coated German Shepherd Dog. Hannah was turned over to Coastal when she was a 4 mos old puppy. She was born with a defective left rear leg, it was straight, but it was straight underneath her so she couldn't use it, it just interfered with her ability to get around, due to the fact that she was hindered in her ability to get around whoever had her before Coastal did not feed her properly so her bones didn't develop properly and her right leg has some orthopedic issues, but Coastal works with the best vets around and Hannah's orthopedic doctor has NO doubt at all that once she has her surgery(ies) she will live a long and happy life! Hannah has lived in a foster home since Coastal took her under their wing and has thrived. In February she had the left rear leg amputated and is healing up beautifully and making up for lost time, full of puppy life and vigor. She is now getting the proper nutrition that every puppy deserves.

  1. Yer lookin’ good Hannah girl! Hey I know how hard it is to get that rear leg strong, and heck you had a much harder go of things than I did before you got your amp, so don’t be discouraged if it takes you a while to hop better.

I used to dip down real low like that too, for almost a year after my amp. But me and my people we did those “core muscle” exercises that they’re always talkin’ about in the Gear Blog, and now I’m much, much stronger and my leg don’t dip down so much when I walk. My pals from the Oaktown pack, well they’re all rear-leggers and they had a tough time too. It’s a GSD thing I guess. Our low-ridin’ butts just make it a little harder to get our hop just right.

You’ll get there too, I just know it. Keep on tryin’, don’t over do things and pretty soon you’ll be runnin with the pack.

Hey I’m gonna be in Cali in winter. Can we meet up? I think you are sooooooo pretty!

    1. I would be hurt Wyatt if you didn’t look me up while you were in sunny So. Cal! =) My mom says that I am too young to have a boyfriend but she says that everyone needs a good looking guy like you as a friend. My mom wanted to take me to the Tripawdy in San Diego this month but she couldn’t take the time off work, since it is going to be during the week.

It gives my mom and I even more hope to know that other rear leggers take awhile to get up and hopping around. We still do the stretches and core exercises that we learned in PT but my mom doesn’t have any of the cool equipment they use so we can only do a few exercises.

I can’t seem to convince my mom that wrestling should be all the exercise I need! =)

Make sure you let us know when you are going to be here Wyatt!
